5 Down

Five weeks down... how many more to go?!

First of all, we'd like a round of applause for tonight's accomplishment (read here: fluke) - two babies in bed by 8pm with NO FUSSING whatsoever. How in the world? And then, asking oneself, will this ever repeat? Yes, but probably not for another week. Ah, well, we'll take it when we get it.

Grandma Darla was here for two weeks and sadly had to return to PA on Saturday. Julian and I were going to hold her captive, but we realized that then her pesky job would probably cease depositing paychecks and providing health insurance. Minor details. Grandma would have happily stayed, and the babies would have loved it, too! The babies grew to know Gma and were comforted by her just as well as they are by Mom and Dad - a big help to all of us. We're looking forward to seeing Grandma again, along with lots of other family, in August when we travel to PA.

We were also blessed with a visit from the Great Aunts from Down Under - Ros and Angela, stopping to see us on the Left Coast as part of a US trip. The girls were fawned over and showered with cuddles during afternoon visits from their aunties. The twins loved the attention but later confessed to being somewhat confounded by the strange accents.

Julian and I have been a bit down after having so much family around to help. No one to pass a baby to, prepare food for us, do laundry, chase the chickens from the porch, and besides all of this, the good company of family. We're looking forward to the upcoming visit from Grandma Anne and Grandpops Austin, to arrive July 4. Until then we'll be hanging in here day by day and night by night!

The girls are starting to show real smiles and sound real baby coos, which make the little bundles more endearing. They love to look at books and faces. Sometimes they'll even try to repeat noises when we talk with them - a soft 'ahhhhhhh' is their pronouncement of choice. The girls are decent sleepers at night (once we actually get them into bed), aside from waking every 2-4 hours to eat. And since they are asleep now, I should take advantage of this and catch some zzzzs myself.
